Nneka first began dancing in weekly classes with the Bellydance Society of the University of Edinburgh, Scotland in 2004. Since then, she has studied intensively with more than a dozen international bellydancers, many of whom are master instructors themselves. Nneka is committed to excellence in oriental dance, and continues her education in teaching and performing under the guidance of the best in the industry.
As an instructor she is patient, supportive and generous with her knowledge of Raqs Sharqi technique and styling. Her teaching style is a wholistic approach, that allows students to find their own dance while remaining true to the artform. Her classes are well thought-out, with attention to the nuances of techinique, music and culture that create an authentic dance.
Her performance style is heavily influenced by Egyptian dance, and incorporates subtle cultural elements from various ethnic dances of the oriental world such as Debke(Lebanon), Havasi (Turkey), Mulan Fan (Asia).
Nneka performs regularly throughout Trinidad and Tobago at weddings, private parties and corporate events including The Original Men Who Can Cook Dinner and Dance, and The Rotary Club of Maraval's Kulchural Kalalloo events.
Her dance philosophy is based on the Arabic concept of tarab, or emotional transformation through music. She believes that oriental dance is imbued with ancient, sacred wisdom of the women and the cultures that have performed it through the ages, and embracing that past unlocks the possibilities for the future of women, and of human civilisation.
In 2007 she became the founder and artistic director of Bellydance With Nneka, a dance company which seeks to share the joy, mystery and vitality of oriental dance. The company offers bellydance classes, performances, dance productions and supply of authentic middle-eastern dance costumes , music and props.
